Adults are Monsters

"This dream again.. Where am I? My body, it's small. My voice.. I look like a little child- I.. I am a child! What is- what is going on... everything is so dark, but it's warm in here. Who am I again?"

"Alice.."

A childish voice woke me up. I opened my eyes and what I saw, pierced through my heart. I was truly a child, and there was crowd of other children bent above me, telling me to wake up. Everything was very dark. This entire area was dark. Rooms, outside.. there was no light, few older kids had phones with flashlights. There was about twenty kids like me, sitting in dark room that looked just like the one from my preschool age. It looked like it.. And actually, it was nice warm in there. We were looking around, no one knew what was going on. Until, one kid said;

"There are monsters walking around, hunting us for souls!"

"Bullshit" I thought to myself. Suddenly other kid raised their hand and whispered.

"I saw one too.."

I was afraid, I didn't know what to do. My light blue eyes were ticking from side to side, my pupil was thinned and I was shivering. Every child was scared, until, we heard a loud thump behind the locked door of the room. I knew what was going on, my short legs were prepared to run.. Kids weren't crying. I was surprised, they just lay down and played dead.. I was the only one standing still.

"Quickly! Lie down!"

Said one kid and I did. Soon. The door heavily opened. I was lying, not moving- heart was racing and my body thrembling. Finally, someone walked within the room.. It wasn't a monster. Yet.. a teacher. An adult person that always takes care of children. Everyone were still scared, I didn't see why. So I greeted her.

"G-Good evening!"

Instead of her smile and waving hand, I got horrofying grin, that was slowly turning in anger. I didn't wait any longer and started running away from the room. Now I knew why they called her a monster. She was chasing me, and I was very slow. I turned around.. there wasn't any teacher. There was a monstrum. Just skin and bones, it had dark fur.. and it was going to kill me. It was too fast.. that thing was an animal, fast beast.. I was just a slow descendant of a human. There were locked door before me.. I couldn't escape. Almost giving up.. when suddenly, someone yelled out:

"Alice! I'm here! Take my hand"

It was Andy. He was behind that door before, me, reaching his hand for me-

I gripped his hand firmly. Not letting go. He pulled me into the room and closed to door. The beast crashed in the door and snarled with anger. We barricaded the door and I asked him:

"I'm swear, that was our teacher! We must be dreaming, there was no monster before, Andy! What is happening!"

He took few steps back and leaned over a wall.

"You were just blind from the beginning. That's all. All these kids, they were turned into monsters as well. You could've been next. You survived thanks so me."

I blinked twice.

"What do you mean?! They are monsters too?!"

He just sighed. He looked very pale, unhealthy and dead like. Almost like a ghost. Big mauve eyes and black hair, they gave him very creepy view. I thought I look like an idiot. And blushing.. why blushing in such situation.

"They were cursed, because they didn't run. They didn't try! They were too scared, so they hid rather! I told them before- but they thought I was an idiot..."

Hey, that's what I just said! I thought to myself again. He folded arms and continued.

"So, Alice. That monster will break in eventually. It will ask you two questions. You must have an answer on them- or we'll be doome-"

Before he could finish, the door crashed in pieces and the beast walked in, together with crowd of other kinds of monsters behind it. Everything in my mind sank. Andy cursed. Beast howled and started walking closer to me...

"What is XXXXXXX and XXXXXX?"

It asked.. I couldn't answer. I was feared. I couldn't move.

"What do you need to create XXXXXXX?"

I didn't know! I shook my head. I knew I was doomed.. Beast reached it's paw with sharp claws towards me, then charging it. But.. it missed me. It targeted Andy.. My heart stopped. His body fell on the ground. Little boy had hole in his chest, his heart was ripped off and eaten by that thing.

"That's too bad. You killed the last living soul.."

No, no no no no! I didn't kill him! IT'S NOT MY FAULT! Something cracked under my feet. In was the wooden floor. Beast moved Andy's body with it's snout. I cleched my fists. Tears were streaming down my cheeks..

"You doomed this dream world forever! Now, our army is finally complete. He will become one of us. And in the end, you too."

I looked back at Andy's body, but it wasn't there anymore. The floor under me was cracking.. I was falling into a dark abyss. Nothingness, opened widely like snake's mouth. I fell inside, I said goodbye. And then, Cherry woke up in her bed.
